I think we all know the struggle of going to the drugstore and not knowing what foundation shade to choose. I always look at the bottles and choose one that looks somehow similar to my skin tone, but 85% of the time I fail. I recently decluttered my makeup collection. I got rid of all the foundations that weren’t my color. Out of the five foundations from the drugstore that I owned only two of them were a good match to my skin tone. I found this website recently that helps you choose your exact color match for any foundation. I decided to try it.
The website Findation.com gives you a selection of foundation shades that are “perfect” for your skin. When I first saw this I thought it was too good to be true so I decided to give it a try. Here is how Findation works.
- There are three steps that you repeat for every foundation that you already own and know that matches perfectly to your skin color.
2. After those three steps, Findation will give you a list of all the possible matches for your skin tone.
3. Choose the one that you like and try it!
Like I said before this all seem too good to be true, so I gave it a try. There are only two foundations that I own that are 100% my color match, so I did the three steps for my foundations and got a list of 30+ possible matches. I decided to try the L’oreal True Match Foundation in the shade Nude Beige w3 (recommended by Findation). When I saw the shade at the drugstore the first thing that came into my mind was: “There is no way that W3 is the right shade.” I still went for it and purchased it.
Immediately after I got home I tried it and in fact it was a little too pink for me. The next day I decided to give the L’oreal True Match Foundation in the shade Nude Beige w3 another opportunity, but this time I took my time to blend it and set it with powder. Even though the shade was not my exact match, it worked fine. I was able to wear it throughout the day.
Here is a comparison of one of my foundations that I find is a good match for me and the one that Findation choose.

Bottom:Revlon Colorstay in 180 San Beige
Note: Even though the L’oreal foundation looks yellow when blended into the skin has more pink undertones.
In my opinion Findation does not give you an exact color match, but it does give you a base to start with. Even though the results where not perfect, I will be using this website as a way to have a starting point next time I am purchasing a foundation online or at the drugstore.
Let me know if you know another website that does a similar job or any products that you would like for me to review!
