Soon I will start my third year in college. Even though that it have been three years of ups and downs, I really appreciate all the relationships that I have built. I remember the day before my first day in college, I was exited and nervous at the same time. I had this picture perfect in my head of what was like to go to college. This picture quickly crumbled down the first day of college. I am not saying that college is awful and you won’t have a great time. What I mean is that college is not probably the way you imagen. Here are 3 things nobody tells you about college.
1. You will have to change radically the way you study
Back in High School I was a straight A student and I didn’t have to put a lot of effort into studying. In fact, I only dedicated time to complete any assignments. Once or twice a week I would actually dedicate time to studying. This is the main reason why my grades went downhill that firsts three months in college. Suddenly I realize that I needed to change my study habits. It took me until last semester to actually learn how to properly study effectively.
2. There is a difference between your friends and Colleagues
This point sound obvious in theory, but believe me it can be easily confused. I remember ending my first year in college thinking “wow I made lots of friends”. It took me a while to realize that they were not my friends. In college there are two types of friends. The first type of friends are the ones that once the semester is over they will still text you once in a while and they will probably keep hanging out with you even though you have no classes in common.
The second type of friends are the ones that bound with you over a class. These are the types of people that you can call for a homework and study together for a test, but once the semester is over there is a probability you won’t have interaction with them (unless you bound with them over other things or you take another class with them).
3. You can never ignore e-mails
This is for all the people like me whose inbox is fill with over 300 emails. Yeah, don’t do that in college. Admissions usually gives you an email, try and keep this to college related stuff. Don’t give out this email to stores, cause you will be filled with promotions. You really want to keep this email as clean as possible. This will be the way of receiving special announcements from your college like enrollment date. This will be also the way of your professors to contact you. So open this email everyday and read every single email.
Those are the 3 things nobody tells you about college. Let me know if you have any other tips for college!
